People often think getting more customers requires a complete website redesign.
Sometimes it doesn’t.
One of my university clients had a website that had been running for over two years. The website was already getting visitors. People were reading the pages, sending contact forms, and applying for admission.
But something was missing.
Many visitors were leaving without taking action.
Instead of redesigning the whole website, I made one simple change.
I added a floating WhatsApp button that stays visible on every page. No matter where a visitor is on the website, they can instantly start a WhatsApp conversation with the admissions team.
The result surprised everyone.
The very next day, the university reported receiving more WhatsApp messages directly from the website. More visitors were reaching out instead of leaving.
Since then, I have added the same feature to many of the websites I build, especially for businesses and schools in Cameroon. The feedback has been consistently positive.
The answer is simple.
Not everyone visits a website the same way.
Some people carefully read every page before making a decision.
Others only spend a few seconds looking around.
Some already know what they want. They just have one or two questions before they are ready to buy or apply.
For these people, WhatsApp removes the friction.
They don’t want to fill out a long contact form.
They don’t want to book a call.
Many don’t even check their email regularly.
But almost everyone in Cameroon uses WhatsApp every day.
It is familiar, fast, and comfortable.
Instead of wondering what to do next, visitors simply tap the WhatsApp button and start talking to a real person.
That conversation often becomes a customer.
Small improvements can have a bigger impact than expensive redesigns.
If your website gets visitors but very few enquiries, don’t immediately assume you need a new website.
Sometimes, you just need to make it easier for people to contact you.
A simple WhatsApp button could be the difference between losing a visitor and gaining your next customer.
