Why Being a Freelance Web Designer in Cameroon is Hard

Why Being a Freelance Web Designer in Cameroon is Hard

I love my work. I get to build websites that help businesses grow, reach more people, and look professional online.

But being a freelance web designer is not easy, especially here in Cameroon.

Every day comes with challenges that you do not see when you only look at the finished website.

I want to share some of the struggles I face and what I have learned from them.

1. Doing Many Jobs at the Same Time

As a freelancer, you are not just the person who designs the website.

You are also the developer, the person who talks to clients, the accountant, and sometimes even the customer support team.

My phone is always buzzing with messages and emails.

Even when I am outside or at home, I check them because I care about my work.

It can feel exhausting. The key is to know what tasks are most important each day and do them first.

If you focus on one thing at a time, you will get more done without burning out.

2. Staying Focused

Being your own boss is great. But it can also be tricky.

WhatsApp messages, social media, family calls, errands, or even TV can steal your attention.

I have talked to many freelancers in Cameroon, and staying focused is always a struggle.

The best way to handle this is to set clear goals every day.

Know what you must finish today and start with the most important task.

Do not move to another task until the first one is done.

This keeps your mind clear and makes your work better.

3. Meeting Deadlines

Clients want websites quickly, sometimes faster than you can imagine.

Deadlines can come too close together and feel stressful.

If you do not plan your day and week, it is easy to feel overwhelmed.

I learned to write down what I have to do each day and follow it strictly.

Even simple planning can reduce stress and make sure everything gets done on time.

4. Taking Care of Yourself

If you sit down to work when your mind is tired, you will not do your best.

This is a mistake many freelancers make. Take breaks. Walk, exercise, rest, or do something that clears your mind.

When you come back to work, you will feel refreshed and produce better results.

5. The Reward

Even with all the challenges, being a freelance web designer is very rewarding. You get freedom.

You can choose the projects you enjoy. You can work with different businesses and help them succeed.

The work is hard, but seeing a business grow because of a website you created makes it worth it.
